Serve

Serving Together

God has given the congregation Spruce Pine UMC a heart for loving and serving our community and our world.

Lamplighters
Our Lamplighters Afterschool Reading Program, which includes 15+ Reading Buddy volunteers, serves as a shining light to 20 children (and their families) from Greenlee Primary School.

KidCafe
We partner with our school system to feed dozens of children in June and July through the KidsCafe summer feeding program.

Missions
Each year we send two mission teams to spend a week helping survivors to rebuild after hurricanes and tornadoes.

Food Pantry / Habitat for Humanity
Folks from our congregation volunteer regularly together with the Mitchell Yancey UM Food Pantry and Habitat for Humanity

Helping the Handicapped
Members have a history of constructing wheelchair ramps and assisting with home repair jobs for the Handicapped

Gleaning for the Hungry
Annual gleaning at a local orchard, serve with Rise Against Hunger

Events
Relay for Life, and the One Day With God camp (for the children of incarcerated inmates.)

Host Site
Our church also serves as a host site for local Kairos prison ministry weekends, for the Residents as Parents Program, and for an Alcoholics Anonymous group. Many members of our congregation serve on the Boards of local community nonprofits, or live out their ministries through our local school and medical systems.
