Spruce Pine UMC   Costa Rica Mission 2007
Saturday / Sunday Travel
We arrive at La Fortuna, Costa Rica later than scheduled at 7:30 p.m., Saturday. Our plane is late leaving Charlotte and we encounter very heavy fog (actually clouds) on our drive from San Jose to La Fortuna while crossing the Continental Divide at over 7000 feet.

We have a devotional time with all 3 teams, the Newton,
N.C team leaves to go home this morning, the
Kentucky team leaves Tuesday.
A view of Camp Casa Cieli where we stay and work
this week. It is a non-denominational Christian camp
serving all Protestant churches in CR.

The unfinished meeting hall at the camp that we'll be working on.

Ken Phillips fly fishing in the La Fortuna River
that flows by the camp grounds. Last week, the
Kentucky team baptized one of their members in
this river after a profession of faith.
We spend Sunday afternoon cruising Lake Arenal, CR's largest lake, next to the active Arenal volcano.
We stop and shop in one of the many souvenir and
wood handcrafts stores.

At 5:00 p.m., we attend a 2+ hour Sunday worship service
at La Fortuna Methodist Church. It's very spirited
and all Spanish. The message/sermon is a Power Point presentation about child abuse and poverty in CR;
a young man from the congregation gives an impromptu English translation for our benefit.
